High School Events on the Schedule for Spring

One of the rich traditions at Pinecrest Academy is a spirited Student Life for our High School students. This includes a host of festive events for students to take part in outside of the classroom, providing opportunities to socialize with members of all grades, while participating in fun activities.

This year has been unique in many ways due to COVID-19, and Student Life is an area that has been affected. However, our Student Council is excited to share a Spring Calendar of Events for students. They have crafted creative, COVID-friendly ways to bring to life many traditional events. View the calendar.

Most of these events will take place during the school day, often during lunch or in an assembly format. Each event will be executed with special attention to social distancing, tracking, and other COVID-19 procedures, while also being exciting, engaging, and fun for our students.

Below are upcoming events our high school students can look forward to:

Powder Puff

Powder Puff dates back to 2011 and is the event that traditionally kicks off the year for the High School. Girls from each class prepare to challenge each other to a game of flag football, while the boys cheer them on and perform entertaining cheer/dance routines between games.

Volleytage

Volleytage was created by members of the Class of 2016 as an Ignite Service Project in 2015. This creative challenge of “sabotage” volleyball allows teams to purchase sabotages against their opponents – things like playing with bubble wrap on their hands, having a team member restricted to a boxed off area, tossing a football amongst their team during the game, and more. This project has raised funds in the past for worthy causes including the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and Hillside Community.

Field Day

During the early days of Pinecrest Academy, high school students helped run the games for the K-8 grade Field Day. In recent years, our high school students wanted to continue the fun traditions they formed in the Lower and Middle School, and they crafted a “throwback” style Field Day for the High School. This includes a Torch Run to start the games, along with Virtue Speeches by leaders of the Senior class. Each student is a member of one of the four traditional teams – Italy, Brazil, Mexico, and Ireland. They travel with their grade to activities like volleyball, kickball, ultimate frisbee, and the traditional relay races, competing to earn points for their respective teams. The day concludes with Tug-of-War challenges.

Recess Tournaments

The lunch period allows students time to do a variety of things, from visiting with friends to studying for classes to participating in fun, active tournaments. This Spring, students who would like to take part, can participate in a Basketball or Cornhole tournament. Teams sign up at the front desk of the High School, and they will compete during the last half of the lunch period on the back yard of the High School, for bragging rights and some great prizes.

Prom

The High School traditionally hosts three dances each year – Homecoming, Winter Dance, and Prom. These are always such wonderful times for our students to dress up, unite with friends, and have a really fun evening. Prom is our formal dance for Junior and Senior students. This dance has boasted great themes in the past like Gatsby, Hollywood, and more. We are excited to host this event for our upperclassmen.

These are just a few of the upcoming events, in addition to traditions like Senior Week and more. We are excited for our students to be able to take part in these fun activities with their classmates.
